Hope Village in Haiti

Haiti Trip Reflection - February 22, 2009 (MP3, 26:02)

Fr. Marc’s children live on the 125-acre Espwa village in small homes of about ten children each and one housemother who bond as a family unit. The village has a clinic, three schools, a working farm and workshops where children learn agriculture, carpentry, and other trade skills in hopes that some day they will find good paying jobs.

Fr. Marc’s mission is to provide visionary and compassionate leadership to these youngsters. He does this by drawing from his Catholic background and experience as a U.S. Navy Chaplain. He states that his two main goals are to nurture the children spiritually, physically and emotionally in a place that is more than just an orphanage and to break the cycle of poverty that dominates the lives of so many in Haiti by focusing on the next generation of children.
